The best thing...

The best thing is neither to seek nor avoid troubles but to follow Christ and take the bitter with the sweet as it may come. Whether we are happy or unhappy at any given time is not important. That we be in the will of God is all that matters. We may safely leave with him the incident of heartache or happiness. He will know how much we need of either or both. - A.W. Tozer, We Travel an Appointed Way

Everyone Else

Sometimes I have to remind myself that I don't have to do what everyone else is doing. - Author Unknown

No matter what...

No matter what today entails, no matter what each moment holds, good things will happen. Good things always happen amidst the bad. You would think by now, with all that I have gone through, I would have learned that. You would think that I would have mastered the art of looking for the positive in all situations. But I haven't. And that is okay. It is okay for me to be angry at this situation. It doesn't mean that I have lost hope. In the midst of the pain and heartbreak that I have felt, I am looking towards the good. I am turning my face to Him and letting those words fall on me like rain. - Heather George

Totally Interested

The thing we would remember from meeting a truly gospel-humble person is how much they seemed to be totally interested in us. Because the essence of gospel-humility is not thinking more of myself or thinking less of myself, it is thinking of myself less. - Tim Keller, The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness

Lord, I pray that...

Renee Swope

Lord, I pray that You would give me a confident heart in Christ. Take me beyond believing in You to truly believing You. Help me rely on the power of Your promises and live like they are true. You say blessed is the one who trusts in You and whose hope and confidence are found in You. Those who hope in You will not be disappointed, because You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose.

When self-doubt tells me I can’t overcome my insecurities, I will believe Your promise that all things are possible to whoever believes. I will not throw away my confidence, because You say it will be richly rewarded. I will persevere so that when I have done the will of God, I will receive what You have promised. My confidence is in Christ and I am no longer one who shrinks back and is destroyed, but one who believes and is saved! In Jesus’ name, Amen. {See Jeremiah 17:7; Isaiah 49:23; Romans 8:28; Mark 9:23; Hebrews 10:35–36, 39}

Opening a Deep Well

Henri Nouwen

Writing is not just jotting down ideas. Often we say: "I don't know what to write. I have no thoughts worth writing down." But much good writing emerges from the process of writing itself. As we simply sit down in front of a sheet of paper and start to express in words what is on our minds or in our hearts, new ideas emerge, ideas that can surprise us and lead us to inner places we hardly knew were there.

One of the most satisfying aspects of writing is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

I have always been...

I have always been captivated by World War II and the individuals, on both sides, who were involved in it. I am in awe of the people who lived through it, who fought and survived, who witnessed and lived through the horrors and found a way in which to forgive, who fought and did not live. I have always wondered if I would be brave enough to fight back, to hide someone even at the risk of my own life and the lives of my family, to secretly undermine the Germans so that innocent people could live. - Chris Dexter

Reading is...

Reading is the best way I know to learn how to examine your life. By comparing what you've done to what others have done, and your thoughts and theories and feelings to those of others, you learn about yourself and the world around you. Perhaps that is why reading is one of the few things you do alone that can make you feel less alone; it's a solitary activity that connects you to others. - Will Schwalbe

Feel Seen

Katherine Sokolowski

...I’m not saying it’s always easy, but I work hard to get to know all of my students. Some are easy. Some keep me up late at night as I worry about them. How can I reach them? What do I need to change about myself?

So not only do I want my quiet kids to know that I see them, that I care about them. I want my loud kids, my troublemakers, my exasperating students to feel seen. They need to know how much I care about them too...
